Sixteen-year-old princess, Piper Parish, is a disappointment to the citizens of Capalon, a STEM-structured kingdom where innovation is valued above all. Her older sister, the queen, views Piper’s tears during their parents’ funeral as a weakness, not to mention her strange affinity for singing. When Piper receives an anonymous note stating her mother is still alive and living in the enemy kingdom of Mondaria, Piper chooses to risk death and flees Capalon to prove once and for all that she’s not just the queen’s defective little sister.

Posing as a Mondarian citizen named Paris Marigold, Piper bumps into a cute black-haired boy named Ari who encourages her to audition for the King’s 100, an esteemed performance court of singers, magicians, and drummers. Piper lands a spot as a singer and dives head-first into a world of glittering dresses, girl-code, sugar, blackmail, and physical contact-all while taking direction from an evil maestro.Under Mondarian law, Piper will be killed if her identity is revealed. But living a life without the freedom to love might actually be the most dangerous risk of all.

This book was one of my anticipated reads of the year because of the synopsis. And this book didn’t disappoint me. So here is a review for the book.

The Characters-

Our main character is Piper, who is for a country which believes in science and technology. And she is a princess of that country. At the start of the book we get to know that her parents have passed away in an accident, leaving her sister to be the queen. In this kingdom there is no place for emotion. Piper thinks her mom is still alive as she receives a note saying that her mom is alive and in the Kingdom of Mondarian. So Piper leaves her kingdom, changes her identity so that she can participate in the competition, and be near the place. I liked how the author showed us character growth for Piper and how she makes new friends, and starts to acceptcertain realities. Also, the friendship in this book was so good that I just wanted to read about it. All the other characters in the books are well-developed and written. And the characters do make most of the stories. Also we had the trope of star crossed lovers in a way. So if you like the trope it is for you.

The Story-

The plot line was written so well, that whole book I thought this one thing will happen but the twist just got to be. Also, the ending of the book kind of sets you up for the second book. I can’t say anything else or I will say something which may be a spoiler. So I will end up saying, the book is great, and you will definitely enjoy it.

1. This book gave me frozen movie vibe with sisters relationship. So if you liked watching frozen maybe you will like this book too.

2. It is mix of Sci-Fic and fairytale, so you should check this book out.

3. The friendship in this story was so sweet and treasured worthy.

4. If you like talent competition and sic-fic books then this book is a great read.

My Rating-
